UPDATE – During Ignite 2018 Microsoft have provided further information. The guys over at Build Azure (a great blog and worth following) have provided a detailed look at the changes here – https://buildazure.com/2018/09/24/introducing-role-based-microsoft-azure-certification-shakeup/
If like me you enjoy taking the odd exam to work towards gaining a certification you’ll be pleased to know Microsoft have announced some additions and changes to the existing cloud exam paths. Announced at Inspire 2018 three new Azure Certification paths are coming for; Administrators, Developers, and Solutions Architects who work with Azure. Each of these certifications consist of passing 2 exam to earn.
- AZ-100 Microsoft Azure Infrastructure and Deployment
- AZ-101 Microsoft Azure Integration and Security
Microsoft Certified Azure Developer (coming soon)
- Part 1 Exam (coming soon)
- Part 2 Exam (coming soon)
Microsoft Certified Azure Solution Architect (coming soon)
- Design focused Exam (coming soon)
- Technology focused Exam (coming soon)
This is good news as these exams will be aimed far more towards individual job role where as the current exams are very broad and try to cover a lot (and lets face it there’s a lot in Azure these days!).
But I already have my Azure 70-533 exam!?
If you have already put the effort into achieving the 70-533 (and there was some effort needed here, it’s a very broad exam) there’s good news here too! You’ll be able to take the AZ-102 Microsoft Azure Administrator Certification Transition “upgrade” exam.
More changes coming in 2019
These changes are just the beginning Microsoft will be releasing many more Role-based Certification Tracks / Paths in the first half of 2019. Expect to see an additional 10+ roles with more than 13 new certifications for Microsoft technologies from Microsoft Azure and other complements technologies.
